[ROM] CyanogenMod 12.1 for Asus Zenfone 5

CyanogenMod developed as open source, but still based on the official Android from Google Inc. which runs alongside the official native code and code from third parties. CyanogenMod is yet to roll out the CM 12.1 officially, but after a number of experimental versions, Tran Huu Tin has managed to build a stable version of the Android 5.0 CM 12.1 custom ROM. How to Install Cyanogenmod 12.1 On Zenfone 5

Method 1 (old system.img)
  1. Your Zenfone 5 must be Unlocked Bootloader (Tutorial HERE)
  2. Download ADB Tools anda then extract (Download HERE)
  3. Download CyanogenMod 12.1 for Zenfone 5
    • System.img (Download HERE)
    • boot.img (Download HERE)
    • sdcard fix boot.img (Download HERE)
  4. Copy all files CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM to ADB folder
  5. Turn off device
  6. Go to Fastboot mode (Pressing the Power button + Volume up/down, until the android logo)
  7. Connect Zenfone to PC/Laptop with USB cable
  8. at ADB folder open CMD (pressing Shift+Right Click > Open command here)
  9. At command terminal type this:
    • fastboot flash boot boot.img
    • fastboot flash system system.img
    • fastboot flash boot fixSdcard-boot.img
  10. Wait until finish and reboot
  11. Factory reset your device
  12. Done
Method 2 (old system.img)
  1. Your Zenfone 5 must be Unlocked Bootloader (Tutorial HERE)
  2. Download CM12.1-AutoInstaller.zip for Zenfone 5 (Download Here)
  3. Double Click cm12-1-installer.bat

Bugs for old system.img
  • Gps (But sometimes working by setting to High Accuracy+wifi)
  • Always showing memory full, but not affect the internal storage and sd card. download big apps from PS is working fine (Hold on "Storage space running out" notifications and disable it)
  • Vibrate not working
  • Wifi tethering error not working
  • Can't save wifi password (must enter password again after disconnect->try WiFi connection manager app from play store, it solves WiFi bug !)
  • Failed to Install BBM/Line via Playstore/APK (Fix: Push APK to system/app then Download and open Link2SD convert app to user app)
  • So far good for daily use.

New Method (New system.img & boot.img)
  1. Your Zenfone 5 must be Unlocked Bootloader (Tutorial HERE)
  2. Download CM12.1-AutoInstaller.zip for Zenfone 5 (Download Here)
  3. Turn Off Device and Enter Fastboot Mode (Power+Volume up)
  4. Connect Zenfone 5 to PC/Laptop
  5. Extract CM12.1-AutoInstaller.zip for Zenfone 5
  6. Double Click cm12-1-installer.bat
  7. Wait Until Finish
  8. Factory Reset / Wipe data

Changelogs (10/07/2015)
  • New System.img and boot.img
  • fix Wifi, bluetooth, Houdini, Vibrator, Gapps installation, compass , Storage Full

  8. Here are Some Bugs I found..


    -Can't Download Cyanogen Theme Showcase, (error: Your device isn't compatible with this version) THIS IS IMPORTANT

    -USB OTG - It doesn't work

    I wasn't able to change the USB mode to MTR or PTP or UMS mode or enable debugging after selecting Charge only mode.
    -Pressing Settings > Storage > Menu > USB computer connection I get a Toast "USB is now disconnected" , even when USB is Connected


    And here are some useless Settings Options I found
    (Settings > FN buttons)

    Backlight (zenfone don't have button backlights)

    Home, Back, Menu, Search Button Wake

    Menu, Search buttons Long Short press action (Zenfones Don't have Menu or Search Button) (These can be used after enabling Soft Navigation Bar)



    Other features i would like to have
    -Faceunlock
    -Edit Recent Button Functions
    -I nice Battery Charging animation (charging when powered off)
    -Multi user
