How to Flash Asus Zenfone 2 CN/TW to WW Firmware

Asus has officially launched Zenfone 2 in some countries such as France, IndiaIndonesia, and North America. Asus Zenfone 2 is the latest generation of the series Zenfone who have a high specification and affordable price. Asus Zenfone 2 firmware divided by three regions CN for China, TW for Taiwan and WW for Worldwide/Global. But unfortunately when you buy Zenfone 2 but got the CN version, because you will not get all the Google services like PlayStore, Gmail, Google Drive, and others in your Zenfone 2.

Preparing Tools
  • Asus Zenfone 2 Recovery Images (Download HERE) ZE550ML=Z008 and ZE551ML=Z00A
  • Asus Zenfone 2 Firmware (ZE551ML | ZE550ML)
  • Intel USB Driver for Android (Download HERE)
  • ADB Driver (Download HERE)
Nb: Choose same recovery and firmware ex: download Z00A 2.17.40.12  and download 2.17.40.12 firmware Instructions Flash Asus Zenfone 2 CN/TW to WW Firmware
  1. Download all files above
  2. Install the Intel USB Driver to your PC 
  3. Open Downloaded ADB then extract it
  4. Place recovery image file (recovery.img, boot.img, and droidboot.img) to ADB Folder
  5. Enable USB Debugging (Tutorial HERE)
  6. Turn off your Zenfone 2
  7. Go to recovery mode (Tutorial HERE)
  8. Connect the Zenfone 2 to your PC using a USB cable
  9. On ADB folder, hold Shift+Right Click and "Open command window here"
  10. Check the connection by type adb devices (if connection successful will be a list of Zenfone 2 devices).
  11. In CMD type: adb reboot bootloader (your Zenfone 2 will reboot to bootloader)
  12. And then type:
    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (enter) wait until the process is completed.
    fastboot flash boot boot.img (enter) wait until the process is completed.
    fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img (enter) wait until the process is completed.
  13. Reboot your Zenfone 2
  14. Move the Zenfone 2 firmware to Internal Storage and wait until the notification
  15. Tap the notification and wait until the process is completed.

  1. Just bought Zenfone 2 with 2.13 WW, but I am pretty sure it was CN\TW, Because OTA is not working.

    What happens is I can't update firmware via copying zip file to internal storage-there is no message after copying is done. Any ideas?

    It says that the file is infected with virus only the owner can download it.

    I am stuck at Step 10.. adb commands don't work..
    In Recovery mode, when I say 'sideload adb' only then on PC I type 'adb devices' I can the phone..
    Other ADB commands don't seem to work
    Please help

    after updating the recovery from CN to WW and the firmware to the same WW number.
    do i have to stick with that same firmware number or can i update the WW versions from my system from now on without problems ?

  9. I just bought a Zenfone2 with Z00A_CN2.18.40.12 there's only 2.17.40.12 recovery image on your link, no new ones. what can I do?
